Yasu Suzuka started photography during his study in the U.S. from 1975. His first attempts at photography were self-portraits. Self-portraits at that time meant, to him, an attempt to find who he really was in a foreign land and allowed him to record a kind of self-documentary through a photo journal. After this, self-portrait photography became the basis of his artwork and now is his life work too. As long as he lives, he will not stop observing himself and will continue with his self-portrait project.
